Nick Oberthaler (1981, AT), lives and works in Vienna and Hamburg where he recently founded VIS with Nadine Droste. His work summons painting in its romantic as well as abstract dimension (with all the fantasies that this may suppose) under a historiological approach that runs from the beginning of the 20th century until today.

For more than a decade, his paintings have flirted with the grid, the emblem of modern composition, and other repetitive motifs extracted and resulting from a scholarly arrangement. They interact with their exhibition contexts as well as with the noble and wild discipline and manifest themselves in the form of aluminum psyches, readymade signage patterns, formerly vertical, these areas act as characters punctuating the exhibitions, sometimes leaving lines discontinuous or arrows direction.

On the occasion of the first participation of furiosa to DAMA in Turin and the inauguration of the new section «Corte» taking place in the courtyard of Palazzo Saluzzo Paesana, the Austrian painter proposes an original pattern, an abstract composition in derivatives of red and blue subtly dialoguing with the palace, decor or sumptuous vestige of a Turin of the late 17th century. This radical neo-couple invites us to differently consider our apprehension and definition of ornament (sometimes isometric) and its representation.
